Why the first burn matters most
Avoid tunnelling and get every hour from your candle with this simple habit.

Wax has a memory. The first time you light a candle, the melted pool sets the boundary for every burn that follows.
Let the wax melt all the way to the edge of the vessel, usually 2 to 3 hours, before you blow it out. Stop too early and the candle will tunnel down the middle, wasting scent and wax.
